Sonakshi Sinha Opens Up About Interfaith Marriage With Zaheer Iqbal; Reveals, “Never A Question Asked, Are You Going To Convert?”

After dating for seven years, Sonakshi Sinha and Zaheer Iqbal got married in a civil ceremony under the Special Marriage Act on June 23, 2024, in the presence of their family members and close friends. Their interfaith marriage has always been in talked of the town as they belong to different backgrounds.

Sonakshi recently talked about her interfaith marriage with Zaheer and revealed how it never became an obstacle in the relationship Speaking to Hauterrfly, she said, “Zaheer aur main religion ko dekh hi nahi rahe the. Here are two people in love with each other and want to get married. He’s not enforcing his religion on me, I am not enforcing my religion on him. We never sit and talk (about religion). We appreciate and understand each other’s cultures. They follow certain traditions at their house, I follow mine at my house. Mere Diwali puja mein voh make baithta hai, main unke niyaz pe baithti hu, that’s all that matters. I respect them and their culture, they respect me and my culture.”

She added, “Under the best circumstance, what was the way to get married was the Special Marriages Act where I as a Hindu woman doesn’t need to change my religion and he can remain a Muslim man and two people in love can share a beautiful bond of marriage.”

“There was never a question asked are you going to convert. We love each other and were getting married,” Sonakshi concluded.

Sonakshi Sinha-Zaheer Iqbal’s Wedding

Sonakshi and Zaheer got married at her Bandra residence on June 23, 2024. The actress repurposed her mother, Poonam Sinha’s wedding saree for her big day. Their wedding was followed by a star-studded reception was held at Bastian in Mumbai for the film industry.
